Besides soccer, the most popular sport in Germany, sports like handball, biathlon, motorsport, boxing, tennis, ice hockey, and triathlon enjoy enormous popularity. Germans love sports, both as participants and viewers. In contrast to the United States, where the big sports evolved from North America by either using different elements of European sports or were conceived on American soil, sports in Germany were mostly adapted from other countries, even the national sport, soccer.  One exception is handball that entirely evolved on German soil. Therefore, it is sometimes also called "The German Game." One movement in sports was started in 1811 by Jahn's athletes, who spread new concepts of physical training across Germany. His movement became known as the turner movement on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
